Life is a Teacher, If Nothing Else
16 nuggets of wisdom from the School of Life
I spend a lot of time wondering about what I’m doing, where I’m headed, and whether I’ll ever realize my dreams.
I’m sure you can relate.
Days, weeks, months, even years of searching for answers to the kinds of questions that burn in the soul — the kind that leave us feeling restless, confused, and empty.
Perhaps we’re waiting for our subconscious to spew forth some brilliant message — one that will brand our hearts with incredible wisdom and insight.
But frankly, I don’t think personal growth happens that way.
The real truths in life are sometimes discovered only after we’ve taken a lot of wrong turns or spent too much time pursuing the transitory and superficial.
Regrettably, these revelations usually arrive too late — their promise and caution appearing only after we’ve compromised our health, relationships, or future possibilities.
So what can we do to save us from ourselves?
I realize finding the answers can take us in many directions, and we often find ourselves traveling in circles — and reaching dead ends.
Thankfully, we don’t have to personally endure all of life’s hardships and disappointments to gain the perspective and wisdom that comes from living a long life.
A better option? We can recognize that the experience of previous generations is an excellent source of suggestions to help us get the most from our lives — while avoiding the majority of pitfalls along the way.
Personally, I’m exploring an alternative route by embracing a few polished nuggets of wisdom shared by those who have celebrated their eightieth birthdays — and beyond.
