Not Getting Enough Quality Sleep?
Here are five suggestions for reaching that blissful state ...
We’ve become a society of restless sleepers.
The bedroom beckons, tempting us with promises of deep slumber. We anxiously slip into the cozy comfort of a just-right mattress and inviting sheets, anticipating a night of restful rejuvenation, along with mental and physical renewal.
Yet sleep eludes us. And the morning brings more than a grouchy attitude.
In an article by the Cleveland Clinic, sleep disorders expert Harneet Walia, MD, says sleep is crucial for our health — and many of us are sorely lacking.
“First and foremost we need to make sleep a priority,” says Dr. Walia. “We always recommend a good diet and exercise to everyone, but along the same lines we recommend proper sleep as well.”
Kathleen Davis writes in Medical News Today that “many people do not get enough quality sleep, and this can affect their health, well-being, and ability to do everyday activities. Occasional interruptions to sleep can be a nuisance, while an ongoing lack of quality sleep can affect a person’s performance at work or school, their ability to function day to day, their quality of life, and their health.”
So is getting enough quality sleep important?
The facts are in — and the answer is a resounding yes.
With this in mind — and having endured more than a few personal night-time tumble sessions — I’m trying a few strategies to re-establish a solid sleeping regimen and make life a little more pleasant in our home.
