Fantasizing About the "One That Got Away" is a Total Waste of Time
Leave the lost loves in the past, where they belong.
A past friend of mine constantly complained about “the one that got away.”
Seemed like every day, he’d whine and moan about how terrible his life was and how much better it would have turned out — if only he hadn’t let go of the alleged love of his life.
Frankly, I’m not sure that she got away, as much as ran away.
Maybe you’ve had similar thoughts about someone from your past — a special person who slipped through your loose fingers. At the time, you had your reasons. But now, you can’t recall exactly what they were.
After a string of bad break-ups and failed relationships, you find yourself looking back on manipulated memories born of illusion.
And you can’t help thinking you made a huge mistake — one that’s keeping you from ever being happy.
You begin to fantasize about what might have been, and how wonderful your life would be if only that person were by your side. Taking the fairy tale a step further, you imagine what they look like now, what they’re doing with their life, and where they live.
And then you wonder if they’re thinking the same things about you.
